Abstract Purpose This paper examines the scope of anorectics in counterfeit weight-reducing formulations and provides insight into present state research determining such adulterants. Analytical techniques utilised profiling adulterants found slimming products, including limitations mitigation steps these conventional methods are also discussed. The current legal status analogues routinely encountered non-prescription is explored. Methods All reviewed literature was extracted from Scopus, Web Science, PubMed, Google Scholar databases using relevant search terms, as, ‘counterfeit drugs’, ‘weight loss ‘weight-reducing ‘slimming ‘anorectic agents’, anorexics’.
